ICE-In Case of Emergency

This is some information regarding a standard procedure that all paramedics follow at the scene of an accident when they come across your cell phone. This is called In Case of Emergency –ICE–.We all carry our mobile phones with names and numbers stored in its memory, but no one, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends. If we were involved in an accident or became ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone, but they wouldn’t know who to call. Hundreds of numbers are stored in a given cell phone, but how can you tell which one is the emergency contact? Hence this “ICE” campaign.

The concept of ICE is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name ICE. The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found out that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they had no clue which number to call. He therefore thought it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose.

In an emergency, the EMT on the scene will look for your phone and upon finding it, will then search the I’s first. An additional trick is placing parentheses around the ICE. This way it actually shows up first in the contacts list. I encourage all of us to place this number in our cell phones. Please tell your friends and family to do the same.

The difference of 5 minutes can save a life. Do all that you can to ensure you are protected in the event of an emergency.

Joe Holland Employs Local Company to Give a Fresh Look

When Joe Holland Chevrolet and Imports decided to give ourselves a new look in cyberspace, we decided to use a local West Virginia company to employ the changes, Christian Internet Service (CIS). We are more than happy with the new look they have given us and the work they have done to get it up and running. The customer service has been exceptional, listening to both our needs and wants and then applying that to our website.Greg Eilier, the owner of CIS, has been very accommodating adapting to our needs. As we all know, the only constant in the car business is change. Taking that into consideration, Greg structured our plan to be on-going and ever-changing. Knowing that our contract included this stipulation was one of the motivating factors with us choosing CIS, and we were able to get exactly what we were looking for. Dan Robinson, the web creator, has been nothing but a pleasure to work with from Day 1. With CIS being a local company, Dan was able to come to our dealership several times throughout the process and worked directly with our Internet Committee.

We would like to thank Greg, Dan, and the entire staff of CIS for doing such a fantastic job on the NEW JoeHolland.com. We hope that you like it just as much as we do!

Teen Drivers

When you are 15 years old and looking forward to driving, you don’t think of all of the issues that may arise. According to NHTSA.gov, Motor Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death of young drivers, ages 15 to 20 years of age. Mile for mile, teenagers are involved in three times as many fatal crashes as all other drivers. We know the causes. Research shows which behaviors contribute to teen-related crashes. Inexperience and immaturity combined with speed, drinking and driving, not wearing seat belts, distracted driving (cell phone use, loud music, other teen passengers, etc.) drowsy driving, nighttime driving, and other drug use aggravate this problem.

To find out more information on how to help your teen, log on to NHTSA.gov and click on ‘teen drivers’. Or, contact your local Insurance Agent for teen driving programs, which will also help with the cost of insuring your new driver.

Car Seat Safety

When you go shopping for your first or next car seat for your children, you may want to verify if any of the brands have a recall issued on them.Child seats may be recalled under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213 which was established and is enforced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). While most recalls involve the seat’s (lack of) crashworthiness, others include parts that can be a choking hazard; flammability, especially the pads and upholstery; and incorrect labeling.

According to Automotive.com you should check the car seat as thoroughly as you would check a new or used car. This step is especially true if you receive or purchase the seat second-hand from a garage sale, flea market, or as a hand-me down from well-meaning relatives. Verify the belts and buckles not fraying or cracking. Make sure there are no holes where your baby can entrap their finger or sharp edges within reach for both of you. Finally, test the seat in your car for proper fit. Despite the claims, not all car seats are effective in every vehicle.

Finally, all children car seats should be labeled with the manufacturer’s name, model information, and when it was manufactured. A registration card should be provided as well if you’ve purchased a new one.

To view any recalls that may be out for child safety seats, and to find plenty of tips on what seats work best for your child as they grow older, go to www.odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/childseat.cfm or call NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.

How to Plan Your week in 30 Minutes

Experts say that you need only 30 minutes to plan your entire week. How do you do it? Follow the OATS formula:O: Objectives. What results do you want to see by the end of the week? Write them down and rank them.

A: Activities. What do you have to do to achieve your goals? List the necessary activities, and put them in sequence.

T: Time. How much time will each activity require? To plan realistically, allow yourself more time than you think you will actually need. This gives you flexibility if unexpected problems develop.

S: Schedule. Look at your calendar and decide when you can do each activity. Most people underestimate the power of a schedule, but you won’t get anything accomplished if you don’t schedule time to do it.
